Spanish 21 Rules

Spanish 21 is a variation of the popular casino game blackjack. Spanish 21 is played the same as the standard game of blackjack except for one small rules change. In the game of Spanish 21 the ten’s are removed from the decks.

When the tens are removed from the deck the casino’s edge is increased by about three percent because a twenty one or blackjack is harder to receive, which means the dealer will not bust as often as in a standard blackjack game. To make up for this difference most live & online casinos will have looser playing rules.

Spanish 21-The Deck

In Spanish 21 the deck will be made up of forty eight cards. The cards have the same value as in regular blackjack. 2-9 equals the face value of the card while face cards are worth ten points. Aces are worth one point or eleven; whichever will create the best hand.

Bonus Payouts

Since Spanish 21 rules gives the house a slightly larger edge there are bonus payouts for the players. A difference from standard blackjack is that a player with twenty one always wins, always beats the dealer. The bonus payouts for Spanish 21 are as follows:

- A twenty one created with five cards will pay out 3:2

- A twenty one created with six cards will pay out 2:1.

- A twenty one created from seven cards will pay out 3:1.

- A twenty one created from 6-7-8 or 7-7-7 will pay out 3:2.

- A twenty one created from the same suit will pay out 2:1.

- A twenty one of all spades will pay out 3:1.

A suited 7-7-7 hand with a dealer hand consisting of a seven card face up will earn the player $1000 for bets of $5 to $24 and $5000 for bets that are over $25.

Spanish 21 – Doubling Down and Splitting

In the game of Spanish 21 players are allowed to double down on any number of cards. Players are also allowed to hit and double down if they are holding two aces that they split. At most live and online casinos, players are also allowed to surrender after doubling down as well.  Surrender is when the player forfeits their original bet to stop playing.

Players are allowed to double down when they have two or more cards. This can be done even when splitting has taken place. The player is allowed to place a bet up to amount of the original bet.

Match the Dealer in Spanish 21

Most Spanish 21 games offer players the opportunity to place a side bet which is called Match the Dealer. Players will win this side bet if they see their first two cards match the rank of the dealers up card. Below you will find a payout table for Match the Dealer bets.
